Johnny Deep’s passion for house music began in 1985 when he was first exposed to The Chicago Sound as a young lad in the UK. His roots were in funk, soul, disco and dub reggae but it would be house music that would be the vessel to express his musical vision. 

House Music for Johnny had always ben synonymous with depth, groove, adventure, experimentation, freedom and originality. It was this core of House Music that inspired Johnny Deep’s many many radio shows and live performances around the world over the years.

Deep began his first house music making experiments as early as 1991 but his music making journey had been far from smooth. It was only at the end of 2023 that Johnny finally felt he had began to master his craft. 

For Johnny, It seemed like destiny that he should master his deep and underground sound in this new era of musical mediocrity, safety and lack of adventure. For Johnny Deep sees his life mission now to hold high the banner of musical deepness, innovation, experimentation, all while honouring the legacy of our early House Music Forefathers. For it was the earlier house music pioneers, unafraid to break musical rules that allowed house music to evolve and also inspired Johnny to dedicate his life to Deep and Underground House Music. 

In Deep’s view, the new, plastic infrastructure that houses dance music rewards musical simplicity over innovation, popularity over originality. It’s a system that rewards the banal in electronic music whilst punishing the independent artist who truly makes original music. 

Ultimately, for Johnny, ideas of fame no longer enter his mind. He sees his artist resistance to the global, digital homogenising of electronic music as his War. It’s not that Johnny Deep expects to change the world with his music, but to act as a musical rebel that refuses to compromise musically, or ethically. His ultimate life time achievement would be, knowing he did not sell out and held the flag high of musical innovation and musical independence!
